Yummy Baked Potato Soup: Kitchen Witchery Recipe
A cozy, comforting family recipe with a little hearth magick.Â
Some of my favorite recipes are the ones passed down from my mom and grandmother. Over the years, I've adapted many of them to suit my vegetarian lifestyle, keeping all the comforting flavors I grew up with while making them my own.
This baked potato soup is one of those recipes.
Originally made with chicken broth and bacon, my vegetarian version uses vegetable broth and skips the bacon altogether but if vegetarian isn't your thing, it's easy enough to keep my mom's original recipe. Either way it's wonderfully creamy, hearty, and satisfying, especially on a chilly autumn or winter evening.
And, of course, I’ve also included a little Kitchen Witchery!
With grounding potatoes, protective onions, and a touch of salt, this soup is perfect for setting an intention of comfort, stability, and harmony within your home.

These correspondences draw from a mixture of folk traditions and modern Kitchen Witchery symbolism. Potatoes, for example, are associated with grounding because they grow beneath the earth.

Yummy Baked Potato Soup
Vegetarian
Serves 4
A rich, creamy potato soup topped with cheddar cheese, sour cream, and fresh green onions.
Ingredients
¼ cup butter
¼ cup chopped onion
¼ cup all-purpose flour
1 can vegetable broth (approximately 14.5 oz)
1 can evaporated milk (12 fl oz)
2 large baking potatoes, baked or microwaved
Salt and black pepper, to taste
½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
3 tablespoons sliced green onions
4 tablespoons sour cream
Optional: A sprinkle of smoked paprika or (vegetarian) bacon bits for a little smoky flavor.
Instructions
1. Sauté the onions.
Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook, stirring occasionally, for approximately 5 minutes or until tender.
2. Make the soup base.
Stir in the flour until combined. Gradually add the vegetable broth and evaporated milk, stirring continuously to create a smooth mixture.
3. Add the first baked potato.
Scoop the pulp from one baked potato, mash it, and stir it into the soup. This helps create a thick, creamy texture.
4. Simmer the soup.
Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture comes to a gentle boil.
5. Add the remaining baked potato.
Dice the second baked potato, skin and all, and add it to the soup. Stir gently and heat through. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
6. Serve and enjoy!
Ladle into four bowls. Top each serving with shredded cheddar cheese, sliced green onions, and a tablespoon of sour cream.

A Few Kitchen Witch Tips
For a thicker soup, mash a little more of the potato before adding it to the saucepan.
For a thinner consistency, add a splash of extra vegetable broth or milk until you reach your desired texture.
If you enjoy a smoky flavor, try a light sprinkle of smoked paprika over the finished soup.
