Did you know that your kitchen is magickal?
You may already have everything you need to practice kitchen witchery sitting in your cupboards. That jar of cinnamon? It's traditionally associated with prosperity and success. The garlic on your counter? Protection. The honey you stir into your tea? Attraction, abundance, and sweetening.
And it's not just the ingredients. Your cooking pot can become your cauldron, your wooden spoon can become your wand, and your stove brings the transformative power of Fire into your work.
No exotic herbs, expensive tools, or elaborate rituals required.
What Is Kitchen Witchery?
Kitchen witchery is a form of practical magick that incorporates intention, symbolism, traditional correspondences, and sometimes ritual into the preparation of food and drink.
At its heart, however, kitchen witchery is quite simple.
You're taking something you already do and giving it magickal purpose.
Rather than preparing a meal without much thought, a kitchen witch might deliberately select ingredients whose magickal properties correspond with a particular intention. As the food is prepared, that intention is kept in mind through visualization, prayer, energy work, affirmations, or other practices.
And then you eat your spell!
Kitchen witchery can be as elaborate or as simple as you want it to be.
You might prepare an entire meal for prosperity using several carefully chosen ingredients, or you might simply stir a little cinnamon into your morning coffee while focusing on having a successful day.
Both can be kitchen witchery.
The Magickal Properties of Food
If you've practiced witchcraft for a while, you're probably familiar with herbal correspondences.
Herbs have traditionally been associated with particular energies, intentions, planets, elements, and magickal purposes. But those correspondences aren't limited to the herbs you keep with your witchcraft supplies.
Many of the ingredients sitting in your kitchen have magickal associations of their own.
For example:
Cinnamon:Â prosperity, success, passion, protection
Garlic:Â protection, purification, banishing
Black pepper:Â protection, banishing, removing negativity
Ginger:Â success, confidence, passion, power
Oregano:Â happiness, protection, luck
Parsley:Â purification, protection, renewal
Dill:Â prosperity, luck, protection
Salt:Â cleansing, purification, protection
Honey:Â attraction, abundance, love, sweetening
Sugar:Â attraction, love, friendship, sweetening
Coffee:Â energy, focus, motivation, grounding
Rice:Â prosperity, fertility, abundance
Olive oil:Â peace, healing, blessing, protection
Lemon:Â cleansing, purification, happiness
Orange:Â joy, prosperity, success
Apple:Â love, abundance, healing, wisdom
Even ordinary foods such as bread, eggs, potatoes, oats, nuts, fruits, and vegetables can be incorporated into magickal cooking.
The idea isn't necessarily to cram as many correspondences as possible into one recipe.
Instead, think about your intention first and then choose ingredients that complement it.
If you're making a meal for prosperity, for example, you might choose ingredients associated with abundance, success, opportunity, and good fortune.
For protection, you might combine garlic, black pepper, salt, and protective herbs.
When several ingredients support the same overall purpose, the entire recipe becomes part of the working.
Intention Is the Most Important Ingredient
Correspondences are useful, but kitchen witchery isn't simply a matter of adding cinnamon to something and expecting money to magically appear.
Your intention, your focus and your faith are what tie everything together.
Before you begin cooking, take a moment to decide what you're actually trying to accomplish.
Maybe you want to encourage prosperity and new opportunities.
Perhaps you want to create a peaceful, protected atmosphere in your home.
Maybe you're cooking for someone you love and want the meal to carry your intentions for healing, comfort, or happiness.
Or perhaps it's Monday morning and all you want is enough focus, motivation, and good fortune to get through the week!
Your intention doesn't have to be profound, but you do need to stay focused and faithful to your goal.
Once you've chosen it, bring your attention back to it throughout the cooking process. This is the focus part of the spell.
You can visualize the outcome you want. Imagine that intention as energy flowing through your hands and into the ingredients. Say an affirmation or prayer while you cook. You can even simply hold the thought quietly in your mind.
Then while you consume the meal, express gratitude as if by consuming the meal you are already enjoying the full manifestation of the spell. Imagine it fulfilled as you enjoy your meal and allow yourself to feel what that will feel like as if it were happening now.
Now comes the hard part - it's your job to have patience and faith that your spell has worked.
In Kitchen magick, your spell is your food.
By being clear on your intention, staying focused on your desires, and having faith that it is possible, you are casting a spell.
This is what transforms ordinary cooking into intentional magick.
Your Kitchen Is Already Full of Magickal Tools
Kitchen witchery isn't only about ingredients. Many ordinary kitchen tools have symbolism that can be incorporated into your practice.
Your Pot Is Your Cauldron.
The cauldron is one of the most recognizable symbols of witchcraft, but you don't need an iron cauldron bubbling over a fire to work with its symbolism.
A cooking pot performs essentially the same symbolic function. Separate ingredients enter the pot, heat transforms them, and something entirely new emerges.
Your soup pot, saucepan, slow cooker, or Dutch oven can all become modern cauldrons when used with magickal intention.
Your Wooden Spoon Is Your Wand.
A wand directs energy. So can your wooden spoon.
As you stir your food, visualize your intention flowing through your hand, down the spoon, and into whatever you're preparing.
You can even dedicate a particular wooden spoon to magickal cooking if you'd like, although there's nothing wrong with using the same one you used to make spaghetti last night.
Magick doesn't require fancy equipment.
Your Mortar and Pestle Connects You With Earth.
A mortar and pestle is especially useful in kitchen witchery because it allows you to physically combine herbs and spices while focusing on their individual properties.
As you grind them together, visualize their energies blending together as well.
The stone, ceramic, or wooden materials commonly used for a mortar and pestle can also reinforce its connection with the grounding, physical qualities of the Earth element.
Your Knife Can Symbolically Cut Away.
A kitchen knife naturally carries the symbolism of separation.
As you chop or slice ingredients, you can visualize yourself cutting away obstacles, unhealthy patterns, negativity, or anything else that no longer serves you.
This can be particularly appropriate when preparing foods for cleansing, protection, releasing, or new beginnings.
Of course, always keep your attention on what you're physically doing too. Magick is wonderful. Chopping your finger isn't.
Your Stove and Oven Bring the Element of Fire.
Fire transforms. Raw ingredients become cooked food. Dough becomes bread. A collection of vegetables, herbs, and broth becomes soup.
Because of this transformative quality, your stove and oven can represent the element of Fire within kitchen witchery.
As your food cooks, visualize Fire transforming not only the physical ingredients but also your intention, activating the magick you've placed into your meal.
Stirring With Intention
Even something as simple as stirring can become part of your spellwork.
In many magickal traditions, clockwise movement is associated with drawing things toward you, building energy, attracting, and creating.
So if you're making something for prosperity, love, success, healing, or good fortune, you might deliberately stir clockwise while concentrating on what you want to attract.
Counterclockwise movement is often associated with releasing, banishing, decreasing, or removing.
If you're preparing something with the intention of cleansing negativity, releasing stress, breaking an unwanted habit, or removing obstacles, you might choose to stir counterclockwise.
You don't need to obsess over how many times you stir or panic if you accidentally go the "wrong" direction. The symbolism is there to help focus your intention, not distract you from it.
Kitchen Witchery Is Easy
One of my favorite things about kitchen witchery is how naturally it can become part of everyday life. You don't have to perform an elaborate ritual every time you make breakfast.
You can:
Whisper a blessing over your family's dinner.
Add a prosperity herb to something you're already cooking.
Stir an intention into your tea.
Bake love and happiness into cookies you're making for someone.
Prepare a protective soup when your household has been going through a difficult time.
Add herbs associated with peace to a meal when things at home have been stressful.
The possibilities are nearly endless because food itself is such an important part of our lives. And sometimes the simplest magick is the easiest to practice consistently.
A Simple Kitchen Witch Prosperity Coffee Spell
Let's start with something most of us can manage first thing in the morning: coffee.
This simple prosperity spell can be incorporated into the coffee you already make, so you don't need to set aside time for a separate ritual.

You'll Need
1 cup of your favorite coffee
A pinch of cinnamon
A small pinch of nutmeg
Honey or sugar (optional)
Milk or creamer (optional)
Why These Ingredients?
Coffee brings energy, focus, motivation, and momentum. It's a wonderful base for magick connected with work, productivity, and getting things moving.
Cinnamon is traditionally associated with prosperity, success, good fortune, and attraction. It's one of my favorite ingredients for money and abundance magick.
Nutmeg has long been associated with luck, money, prosperity, and good fortune.
Honey (optional) can be used to attract and sweeten circumstances, while sugar can serve a similar purpose.
Milk or creamer (optional) is associated with abundance, nourishment, prosperity
Make Your Prosperity Coffee
Prepare your coffee as you normally would.
Before adding anything, take a moment to think about what prosperity means to you.
Don't limit yourself to simply imagining a pile of money. Prosperity can arrive as a new client, an unexpected opportunity, increased sales, a new job, a useful connection, inspiration for a project, or simply having what you need when you need it.
Add a pinch of cinnamon and a small pinch of nutmeg.
If you normally sweeten your coffee, add your honey or sugar. Add milk or creamer too if you like.
Now stir the coffee slowly clockwise.
As you stir, visualize opportunities, prosperity, and success being drawn toward you. Imagine the energy of your ingredients combining with your intention and flowing into your coffee.
You can also repeat a simple affirmation such as:
"Prosperity, come my way,
Bring abundance to my day.
Luck and fortune, flow to me,
As I will, so mote it be."
Then drink your coffee normally.
As you do, imagine yourself taking that intention into your body and carrying it with you as you begin your day.
And that's it. Just your morning coffee, a few ingredients from your spice cabinet, and a little focused intention.
Some nice practical magick to start your day!
