Divination

One of the most exciting parts of studying witchcraft is learning to trust your intuition, and divination is one of the best ways to develop it.
Simply put, divination is the practice of seeking insight, guidance, and clarity through symbolic tools. While many people think of divination as predicting the future, I encourage my students to look at it differently. The future is always changing based on the choices we make. Rather than predicting a fixed outcome, divination helps us better understand our current path, recognize opportunities, identify obstacles, and make more informed decisions.
There are many forms of divination, and each has its own strengths. Some people connect deeply with tarot, while others prefer pendulums, oracle cards, runes, or scrying. The best tool is simply the one that resonates with you.
Before Every Reading
No matter which divination tool you choose, I recommend following the same basic routine before every reading.
-
Ground and center yourself.
-
Place your psychic protections.
-
Invite your Spirit Guides to assist you.
-
Take a few slow breaths and quiet your mind.
-
Clearly focus on your question or intention.
This simple process helps you become more receptive to intuitive impressions and creates a consistent foundation for every reading.
Tarot Cards
Tarot is one of the best-known forms of divination and one of my personal favorites. Although it can seem intimidating at first, tarot becomes much easier when you stop trying to memorize every meaning and begin trusting your intuition.
The images on the cards often speak just as loudly as the guidebook. Over time, you'll begin noticing colors, symbols, facial expressions, and small details that stand out to you. Those impressions are often just as valuable as the traditional interpretations.
A Simple Three-Card Reading
If you're just beginning, try this simple process:
-
Ground, center, and protect yourself.
-
Shuffle while focusing on your question.
-
Spread the cards and choose three intuitively.
-
Look at the artwork before reaching for the guidebook.
-
Notice your first impressions.
-
Then compare your intuition with the traditional meanings.
Three-card spreads are excellent because they're simple, flexible, and surprisingly insightful.
Some popular layouts include:
-
Situation • Problem • Solution
-
Past • Present • Future
-
You • Them • Outcome

Oracle Cards
Oracle cards are often easier for beginners than tarot because many decks include keywords or messages directly on each card. They allow you to spend less time memorizing meanings and more time developing your intuition.
There are hundreds of oracle decks available, covering everything from angels and spirit animals to affirmations and self-care. Choose a deck whose artwork and messages genuinely resonate with you.

Pendulums
Pendulums are one of the easiest divination tools for beginners because they require very little prior knowledge. They are commonly used to answer simple questions, confirm intuitive impressions, and strengthen your connection with your Spirit Guides.
Getting Started
Before asking important questions, spend a few minutes establishing how your pendulum communicates.
Ask it to show you:
-
Yes
-
No
-
Maybe (optional)
-
Not at this time (optional)
Once you've learned its movements, begin with simple questions whose answers you already know. This helps you build confidence before moving on to more meaningful readings.
If your pendulum seems unresponsive, don't force it. Spend a few minutes grounding yourself, clearing your mind, and trying again later. Sometimes our own expectations create more interference than anything else.

Runes
Rune stones have been used for centuries as tools for guidance and self-reflection. Each rune carries a symbolic meaning that can offer insight into your current situation.
One of the simplest methods is a single-rune reading:
-
Ground and center yourself.
-
Focus on your question.
-
Draw one rune.
-
Reflect on how its meaning applies to your situation.
Runes are best used as tools for guidance rather than fixed predictions. They encourage reflection and often reveal perspectives that may not have been immediately obvious.
Scrying
Scrying is one of the oldest forms of divination. Traditionally performed with a crystal ball or black mirror, it can also be practiced using water, reflective surfaces, or even a candle flame.
The goal isn't to force yourself to "see visions." Instead, allow your mind to relax and become receptive.
Your impressions may appear as:
-
Symbols
-
Colors
-
Emotions
-
Words
-
Sounds
-
Mental images
-
A simple intuitive knowing
Like meditation, scrying improves with patience and regular practice. Not every session will produce dramatic results, and that's perfectly normal.
Developing Your Intuition
One of the biggest misconceptions about psychic development is that you have to be born psychic. While some people may seem naturally gifted, intuition is a skill that can be developed with practice, patience, and experience.
Think of it like learning to play the piano. Some people may have a natural aptitude for music, but that doesn't mean everyone else is incapable of learning. The more consistently you practice, the more comfortable and confident you become.
Divination works the same way.
Tarot cards, pendulums, runes, and other tools don't make you psychic. They simply provide a way to focus your mind, strengthen your intuition, and learn to recognize the subtle impressions that are already there. The more you practice, the easier it becomes to trust those impressions and understand how your own intuition communicates with you.
Psychic development is a journey, not a destination. Every reading is another opportunity to learn, grow, and strengthen your connection to your inner guidance.
Ready to Go Deeper?
Reading books and practicing on your own are wonderful ways to build your intuition, but sometimes having a mentor can help you progress more quickly and with greater confidence.
If you're ready to take the next step, I'd love to work with you one-on-one. Together, we'll identify your natural strengths, develop your unique psychic abilities, and build a practice that feels authentic to you. Whether you're just beginning or looking to deepen your existing skills, I'll meet you where you are and help you grow from there.
